AHST WINS SEASON OPENER OVER GUTHRIE CENTER
(AHST) The AHST Vikings win their season opener last night 19-6 over the Guthrie Center Tigers. AHST recovered a Guthrie Center fumble at the Tigers 21 yard line midway through the first quarter and capitalized with an Austin Fink one yard touchdown run to lead 6-0. Guthrie Center was able to tie the game up late in the first half when Zeb Osen's first of two interceptions on the night led to a 19 yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Curtis Bolton to junior running back Gavin Laughery. AHST used their passing game to grab the lead back in the third quarter. After not completing a single pass in the first half, sophomore Kyle Bauerkemper connected with Tyler Robinson and John Behrens on back to back plays that spanned over sixty yards including the go ahead 30 yard TD pass to Behrens. In the fourth quarter, AHST went back to the running game to wind down the clock and eventually put the game out of reach with another John Behrens touchdown, this time a five yard run with just under three minutes left in the ball game which made it a 19-6 lead.
