(Atlantic) Harlan defeated Atlantic 10-2 in a Hawkeye Ten Conference baseball game at Atlantic Wednesday night.
The Trojans won the first meeting 9-5 at Harlan back in June. Thursday night it was all Cyclones with 10-runs on seven hits. They also took advantage of five Trojan errors. Atlantic scored two runs on four hits.
The Cyclones scored four runs in the third with Cale Stork providing the biggest offensive punch with an RBI double, plus one on an over throw to third. The Cyclones tacked two more runs on the board in the fifth on Mitch Kramer's two RBI single to take a 6-0 lead and scored two more runs in the sixth to make it 8-0. Atlantic plated two runs in the bottom of that same frame on Brendon Holmes sacrifice fly and Ryan Hawkins ground ball to cut the lead to 8-2. However, that would be the only offense for the Trojans. Harlan scored two more runs in the seventh highlighted by Nate Getty’s RBI Triple to push the score to 10-2.
Cale Stork tossed a one-hit shut-out through five innings before calling it a night. The senior struck four and walked only one. Josh Cheek closed out the game on the hill for the Cyclones. Ryan Hawkins took the loss for Atlantic. Hawkins pitched six innings. He struck out seven, walked six, and hit two batters.
For Harlan offensively Nate Getty’s finished the night 2-3 at the plate and Cale Stork added a double and an RBI and Mitch Kramer, had a two RBI triple to help the cause.
Joey Walker led Atlantic offensively with two hits; Brendon Holmes and Logan Steffens each had one base hit.
Atlantic, drops to 11-10, and hosts Creston Thursday night. Harlan extends their record 15-6 and takes on Red Oak in a double-header Thursday night.
