(Atlantic) Logan Steffens (pictured)  and Joey Walker led Atlantic in a 7-1 win over Clarinda in a Hawkeye Ten Conference baseball game at Atlantic Thursday night.

Steffans reached base on all four of his trips to the plate and ended the night 2-2 with three RBI’s. Joey Walker was 3-4 with two RBI’s.

Atlantic scored seven runs on nine hits... plated two runs in the first, three in the fourth, and two in the sixth. Clarinda finished the night with one run on three hits.

Zach Nelson, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the first inning, got the wheels turning for the Trojans. He stole second, went to third on Walkers single and scored on Brendon Holmes sacrifice fly. Logan Steffans RBI single sent Walker across the plate to jump start the Trojans.

Atlantic extended their lead to 5-0 in the fourth. This time it was the bottom half of the batting order that helped produce three more runs. Ryan Hawkins, Collin Baker, and Seth Nelson all had base knocks to lead off the inning; And Walker provided the big punch with a two RBI single after one run had already crossed on a ground out.

Clarinda mustered a run in the fifth on Troy Aldrich single and Dedric Kettwick RBI walk with the bases loaded to close the gap to 5-1. However that would be as close as the Cardinals would get. The Trojans moved two more runs across in the sixth. Zach Nelson reached base on a fielder’s choice, Walker singled and Steffans smacked a two RBI double to extend their lead to 7-1. Tristen Benn closed the door on the Cardinals in the seventh with two outs strikeout. Joey Walker picked up the win. Benn got the save.

The Cardinals who drop to 2-11, scattered three hits in the contest from the bats of Austin Smith, Troy Aldrich, and J.J. Clark.

Atlantic moves to 10-5 and host Red Oak Friday night.
