(Elk Horn) It's been quite a week for the Exira-EHK Spartan baseball team. They've scored 41 runs through three games this week and posted a season high 17 tallies in their win over Adair-Casey last night. The game ended via the 10-run rule in 5 innings with the Spartans on top 17-6.
Drew Peppers tagged a three run homer and drove in four runs in the game. He was one of several bright spots for the Spartans at the plate as they drew 12 walks and hammered out 8 hits in the five inning contest. Lucas Schwery, Austin Malloy, and Joe Harris all scored three runs each while Jarred Hansen, Drew Buckholt, and Tate Simpson all score two runs apiece. In addition to Peppers driving in four runs, Zack Kliefoth added RBI's number 22 and 23 on the season plus Brady Hansen and Tyler Jacobsen each drove in runs.
Adair-Casey scored six runs despite not picking up a hit in the game. Connor Westergaard and Brad Patterson each scored twice as all the Bombers offense came from walks and wild pitches. Patterson and James Grubbs each had RBI groundouts.
Brady Hansen and Drew Peppers combined to throw the five no-hit innings for the Spartans. Hansen walked five batters in two-plus innings and struck out six. Peppers tossed the final three innings surrendering only one walk and striking out five.
The Spartans go to 8-2 on the year. Adair-Casey drops to 1-6 on the year.
