(Harlan) A 9-run third inning for Harlan lifted the Cyclones past Atlantic in Hawkeye 10 Conference Softball Tuesday night at Harlan.
Harlan opened up a 1-0 game by posting the nine run 3rd on five hits, one walk, two hit batters, and two Atlantic errors. Logan Schaben began the big 3rd inning with an infield single and the Cyclones loaded the bases with walk and a hit batter. From their Kassie Craig drove in a run on a bases loaded walk, Ashley Kolbe had an RBI single. Shaben, Brenda Hopkins and Julia Sorfendon all had hits in the inning.
For the game, Schaben, Hopkins, Sorfendon, and Kolbe all scored two runs apiece in the 11-0 win for Harlan. The run support was more than enough to back Schaben’s standout pitching performance. She allowed just two hits and didn’t walk a batter while striking out five hitters in five shutout innings.
Harlan goes to 8-3 overall and remains unbeaten in Hawkeye 10 play. Atlantic falls to 7-4 overall. Mollee Welter and Gabby Jordahl had the lone hits for Atlantic.
