(Elk Horn) Exira-EHK stayed perfect with an 18-0 win at CAM last night in softball, dropping the Cougars to 1-4 on the year.
Kennedy Madsen and Sophia Peppers both homered and Rachel Smith struck out 14 of 15 batters in a five inning perfect game as the Spartans rolled to a lopsided win.  Exira-EHK never trailed against a shorthanded CAM team Wednesday, they scored three runs in the 1st, one in the 2nd, five in the 3rd, and one in the 4th to lead 10-0 heading into the fifth inning. The Spartans led off the fifth with four straight pinch-hitters, all of whom reached safely. It ended up being an eight run frame to widen an already comfortable advantage.
Rachel Smith didn't allow a walk or a hit and the Spartans had no errors. A fourth inning groundout by Rachel Riker was the only thing seperating Smith from every out being a 'K.' Smith is now withing striking distance of reaching 1,000 career strikeouts in Exira-EHK's big game against Charter Oak-Ute Friday. Smith has given up just four hits in six starts. She's had four no-hitters.
Exira-EHK had 11 hits in the win and 12 different players scored a run. CAM's biggest highlights came when catcher Kourtnie Stephenson threw out two potential base stealers.
