(Harlan) Nate Gettys slugged two extra base hits, made a fantastic diving catch in center field, and scored 2 runs to spark Harlan in a 9-2 win over Kuemper Catholic.
Kuemper Catholic dented the scoreboard first with a single run in top of the third, but Harlan responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning and never looked back. Gettys led off the 3-run 3rd with a shallow double down the right field line. Adam Juhl was hit by a pitch and Kuemper Catholic got back to back strikeouts to nearly get out of trouble, but then the Knights committed consecutive 2-out errors to allow Gettys, Juhl, and Derek Leinen to all score in the inning. Harlan's Mitch Kramer led of the 4th inning with a double and Gettys hit a triple to boost the cause in a 4-run 4th inning to put Harlan on top comfortably. Harlan took advantage of more Kuemper Catholic errors in the 4th, the Knights commited 8 in the game. Harlan's final two tallies came in the 5th when Brett Croghan popped up in the middle of the infield but it dropped for a hit and Kramer had a hit. Juhl had an RBI single in the 5th as Harlan led 9-1 at that point. Kuemper could only get one run closer the rest of the way, scoring a single run in the 6th as Ben Hicks led of the inning with a walk, moved over on an Adam Schleisman hit, and scored on a Trevor Fielmeier base hit.
Croghan is the winning pitcher for Harlan going five innings with 5 K's allowing 3 hits and only 1 walk. Croghan allowed only 1 ER. Harlan is now 2-1 on the season. Adam Schleisman takes the loss for the Knights. He struck out 7 in 4 IP. Schleisman allowed six hits and one walk for the 3-3 Knights.
