(State) The Class 1A, 2A, and 3A Boys State Golf Tournaments were held Friday and Saturday around the State. Eight teams in each class competed in the 36-hole tournaments with 1A being played in Marshalltown, 2A in Livermore, and Class 3A at Ames.
The Griswold Tigers had the top showing of any area team, they placed third in Class 1A. The Tigers were one stroke out of 2nd place and 21 strokes away from team champion Bishop Garrigan, Algona. Griswold's team score of 644 was comprised of James Reynolds (155), Jake Reynolds (164), and Tyrel Peters (164). James Reynolds stroke total of 155 tied for 10th individually. Other scores for Griswold included Tyler Wyman's 168 and Mo Kimpson's 182.
Riverside placed 6th in Class 1A as a team with a collective 664. Lone senior Eric Rock led the Bulldogs with a 156 (T-13th). Tyler Krueger shot 162, Dylan McClain 172, and Tim Brink 180.
In the Class 2A field, Kuemper Catholic and Panorama each represented the KSOM/KS95.7 sports coverage area. Panorama placed 4th with a 647 and Kuemper Catholic tied for 6th at 662. Panorama teammates Jordan Eng and Will Babcock tied for 15th with 161's.
In Class 3A the Creston Panthers were unable to repeat as state champs, but still had a good showing with a 2nd place 634. They were 12 strokes back of state champ West Delawayre. Carson Whittington's 3rd place total of 147 led Creston. Two other southwest Iowa athletes were in the top 10 with Ross Martens of Harlan tieing for 8th with a 153 and Evan Schuler of Atlantic 10th at 155.
