T.I.F. POLICY DEVELOPMENT TAX FORCE MEETING SET FOR TONIGHT
(Atlantic) A Mayor appointed task force will begin to hammer out the details of a new Tax increment Financing Policy tonight. Atlantic Mayor Dave Jones says he would like to see a $1-million property valuation minimum and job creation potential before they even talk about a T.I.F.
Jones says there has never been a set policy in place and he wants the task force to build one specific to Atlantic’s needs.
“There has never been an official policy, it has always been a little bit here, and a little bit there, and who you were in town, with a lot of opposition to different T.I.F.’s,” stated Mayor Jones. “So this committee is going to explore whether or not a T.I.F. policy will work in Atlantic, what hasn’t worked, and how we can tweak it to make a better T.I.F. program for Atlantic.”
The eight members of the committee include; Don Sonntag, Greg Williams, Teresa Jorgensen, George Howard, and Community Development Committee representatives Linda Hartkoph, Kathy Somers, Shawn Shouse and J.C. Van Ginkle.
The meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. tonight in the City Council Chambers at City Hall.
