(Des Moines) State lawmakers are taking the first step today towards banning a hallucinogenic Asian herb from sale or use in Iowa.
Representative Ako Abdul-Samaad says several countries have already acted to make "Kratom" illegal.
“I haven’t heard of it being used here in the United States at all, but that doesn’t it won’t be without a doubt,” said Abdul-Samaad.
But, the Des Moines Democrat says he wouldn't be surprised if lawmakers have to revisit the issue in a few years to allow for the medicinal uses of Kratom.
