(Harlan) The Harlan City council voted Tuesday evening to accept the Pioneer Park Recreation Trail Reconstruction Project. Harlan City Administrator Terry Cox says the city purchased 20-acres of farmland for the Park in 1975 and constructed a mile of sidewalk which is now falling apart.
Cox says the $340,500 construction project includes a 10-foot wide walking trail and new Acorn lights that will match the downtown lighting.
Terry Cox has been submitting grant applications over the last three years and has been successful in securing enough grant funds to pay for much of the project. The city will contribute $35,000 worth of in-kind work, and $29,100.00 of local option sales tax money to make up the difference.
The design process will start March 1 and will be completed May 1. The project will then go out for bids and construction will start July 1 with a completion date slated for September 1.
