(Des Moines) The Governor’s Office of Drug Control Policy says a new form of synthetic marijuana has been shown to be a factor in three separate deaths last year of young Iowans.
Spokesperson Dale Woolery says there is a major, on-going effort to try and keep ahead of the issue, noting 50-compounds, used in the drugs and bath salts have been banned by State and Federal authorities.
“Progress is being made, it is just slow,” stated Woolery. “It is really important that people talk with younger people, we know that it has a positive effect.”
Woolery says the challenge is, those in the illegal drug trade keep finding new ways to get around the rules.
