(Des Moines) There was a show of force at the statehouse against a planned Interstate Power transmission line across Iowa. Caroline Sheridan of the “Preservation of Rural Alliance” says residents from around the state were at the Capital Tuesday lobbying for a bill that would ban the use of “eminent domain” to “seize” private land for the proposed “Rock Island Clean Line.”
“They are going to take wind energy from the western side of Iowa, including O’Brien County and a little bit from South Dakota,” explained Sheridan. “It will end up in Illinois and to the east with absolutely no electricity being used by any Iowans.”
Sheridan says they are not opposed to wind energy, just the specific use of eminent domain by a private, for-profit company for their project.
