(Atlantic) The Atlantic Park and Recreation Board gave Park and Rec. Director Roger Herring the go ahead to move forward with plans to put a Senior Activity Area in at Sunnyside Park.
The Senior Activity Area would be located south of the new Park and Rec. building in the old flower bed area. It would be an area for seniors age 55 and older to gather and socialize, get some exercise and/or play games.
And, Roger Herring received some good news from a group of individuals who have offered to put in the horseshoe pits.
“It would be the Trevor Frederickson Foundation and the Dean Orstad family. There is some relationship there between the Trevor Frederickson Foundation and the Dean Orstad family,” said Herring. “Dean Orstad just passed away in Griswold and was very active in the Griswold area, very active in the Fair Board and the Fairgrounds, and was an avid horseshoe person. So, between those two entities they said they would build the horseshoe area for us.”
Herring is going to work on some final plans and cost estimates for the project. He said he has some money built into the budget for the senior activity area.
