(Des Moines) The Governor today says he’s pleased that Senate Democrats appear to be shifting their focus from the institution of the Iowa Juvenile Home and focusing more instead on providing the best treatment for individual girls.
Terry Branstad claims social workers who say they need such a facility of last resort for Iowa’s most troubled youth are making a mistake.
“Philosophically we need to go away from this corrections mentality and instead go to an idea of how we can provide the best treatment, support, and to help these kids that are troubled, that need assistance,” stated Branstad.
Governor Branstad says he wants to move away from a one size fits all remedy for troubled kids.
