(Des Moines) The Iowa Hospital Association has issued its annual Economic Impact report, part of which looks at the total number of those employed, either directly or indirectly, by hospitals and health care in general.
“It adds up to about 307-thousand people are employed in healthcare in Iowa and that’s about one job in five for all of Iowa’s non-farm employment,” said Scott McIntyre, Iowa Hospital Association Spokesperson.
McIntyre says the study also finds hospitals provide 4.2 billion dollars in salaries and benefits and generate nearly two billion dollars through other jobs that depend on hospitals.
Hospitals directly employ more than 71-thousand people in the state.
