UNIQUE BICYCLE WILL BE ON DISPLAY WHEN RAGBRAI COMES THROUGH LEWIS
(Lewis) Ragbrai will be coming through Lewis on July 24th and once riders arrive they will be greeted by a very unique spectacle. One of the largest bikes in the world is currently being built in Lewis. Duane Weirich (pictured), owner of Weirich Welding Plus, is working on a bike that will be stand 15 feet tall and stretch 32 feet long. Weirich says the largest bike that he has heard of is in Germany and is 24 feet long and 12 feet tall. Weirich's project will easily top that. Both of the wheels are complete, but there is still a lot of time remaining on the project. He expects 28 total hours of work will go into it. He has already put in four hours on each wheel. Weirich says he's planning to make the bike fully functional with working pedals and a kickstand that will allow it to stand up on its own.
