(Earling) A Shelby County man was charged with First Offense OWI following an accident on Interstate 80 in Pottawattamie County Thursday night.
The Iowa State Patrol says 37-year-old Ryan Schwery, of Earling was westbound near the 33-mile marker in a 1991 Chevy Blazer with engine problems, and traveling at a slow rate of speed when it was rear ended by a 2008 Dodge Sprinter van driven by Tyler Mark, of Lincoln, Nebraska. The impact caused Schwerys' vehicle to spin off the road into the north ditch where it came to rest upright. Tyler Mark's vehicle spun off the roadway and came to rest in the north ditch as well.
Schwery, fled the scene and was later located at the country Inn in Shelby. He was transported by Shelby Rescue to Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan for treatment of injuries. He was then taken into custody and transported to the Pottawattamie County Jail.
