(Montezuma) Two teens in Poweshiek County face charges in connection with shooting an eagle near Montezuma Wednesday.
KCCI News said a witness told authorities that she was looking out of her front window when something fell out of the tree in her front yard. Two boys pulled up in a truck with a rifle hanging out of the window and fired the gun at the eagle that was struggling in the snow. The eagle was taken to a veterinarian but it was unable to be saved due to injuries.
The teens face charges of carrying loaded weapons in a car and firing a weapon within 200 yards of an occupied building. Other charges for killing the Bald Eagle are pending. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Iowa Department of Natural Resources are investigating the incident.
