(Des Moines) State Medical Director Dr. Patricia Quinlisk says there are signs that the flu bug is waning. However, she notes that we’re not completely out of the woods yet.
“Certainly there are still adults getting seriously ill and children getting seriously ill and we still have some of them ending up in hospitals,” said Dr. Quinlisk.
Dr. Quinlisk says for those who haven’t yet gotten a vaccine, there’s still time to do so and be protected against the virus. She also reminds everyone to take other basic precautions against getting sick and/or spreading a cold, flu, or other contagious virus.
The CDC reports some states are starting to see decreases, others seeing continued rises in flu activity. In Iowa, officials have downgraded the flu from widespread to “regional”. There have been 584 cases so far this season; the most flu-related hospitalizations have been in east central Iowa.
