(Des Moines) The Iowa Tourism office’s latest “welcome center survey” finds an uptick in tourist spending in 2013, compared to 2012.
Spokesperson Jessica O’Riley says spending per day increased 8.5 percent (from $265 to $285). A lot of travel information can be found online, but O’Riley notes travelers who stop at one of Iowa’s 19 welcome centers are always rewarded with good information.
“They have hundreds of brochures available to help you plan your trip and they’re also incredibly knowledgeable and happy to give you suggestions on places to go,” said O’Riley.
The survey finds on average, visitors took 3.4 trips in the state in 2013, compared to 2.9 trips in 2012.
