(Atlantic) Today is a day celebrated by dozens of countries around the world, a day filled with love and generosity..Valentine's day has arrived and it's a busy one for folks like Gerald Brink and his crew at Brink Flower and Gift Company in Atlantic.
"Valentine's day is probably the one biggest holiday of the year now. Of course Christmas is bigger but it's spread out over a period of time. Valentine's day is a two or three day event normally and it's a lot of chaos going on."
It'll be all hands on deck today, they've been preparing since November with pre-ordering flowers, and it's not their first trip to the rodeo.
"We've been doing this for 57 years now. I guess we could say we've got it down to a science, so in other words, we know everything we know everyday, just bang, bang, bang what needs to be done, where this goes, where that goes, and after 57 years hopefully we did learn something."
You can be well prepared, but Brink says it's very much a last-minute holiday. The hot-ticket item of course is the symbol of love itself, the red rose.
"We sell a lot of other things too, but still the red rose is still the most popular and we sell many, many, many, many of them."
Brink says they rely on past records to know how many to be prepared for and condition the flowers properly to last as long as possible.
