(Des Moines) Another day, another impromptu debate over raising the minimum wage in the Iowa Senate. Iowa City Democrat Joe Bolkcom was looking for any Republicans to join the effort to help Iowa’s lowest paid workers.
“Slip me a note, send me a text, tweet me, send me a smoke signal, meet me in the Senate lounge,” said Bolkcom.
But, Boone Republican Jerry Behn says Government cannot create value in the marketplace.
“If we could, there would be no reason to stop at 10; we could make it 15, we could make it 20, we could make it 30, we could make it 50,” stated Behn.
Political watchers say prospects are dim for a hike in the minimum wage this session.
