(Des Moines) The sponsor of a House bill that would allow limited sales of raw milk in Iowa is defending his proposal today. Schleswig Republican Jason Schultz says for every expert that testified against unpasteurized product at a forum yesterday, he could present another expert who supports the idea.
“Every state that touches Iowa has some access to raw milk, California has it retail in the grocery stores, Europe has it in vending machines; this is silly,” stated Schultz.
Representative Schultz says his own family loved raw milk when he was able to “smuggle some contraband” into Iowa. He says the taste of raw milk is entirely different from the pasteurized product. Having said that, he admits chances of passage for his raw milk bill are slim this year.
