(Des Moines) The Iowa Gaming Association does not oppose a new study bill right now that would change Iowa law to allow fantasy sports players to collect cash and prizes. Wes Ehrecke, with the IGA, says they did raise questions at Wednesday’s hearing on Senate Study Bill 3108.
“Certainly we’re not opposing this, but all we’re doing is raising some questions that since we’re heavily regulated and structured to uphold a high level of integrity and standards to insure player confidence, what kind of restrictions or licensing or safeguards are going to be put in place? So, we were just raising questions at yesterday’s hearing,” said Erheke.
Erheke says fantasy sports falls under games of skill at the Department of Inspections and Appeals. He says the Iowa Gaming Association wants to ensure a proper process for any bad actors that may show up in the industry. Currently, receiving a payout on a fantasy team win is against Iowa law. The Fantasy Trade Association of Wisconsin is in Iowa lobbying for the bill.
