(Council Bluffs) A Council Bluffs man was sentenced in District Court this morning for the death of his wife.
The Council Bluffs Nonpareil says 55-year-old Darwin Cox pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, intimidation with a dangerous weapon with intent, and going armed with intent. He was initially charged with first degree murder. Cox faces 25 years in prison.
The body of 44-year-old Millisa Cox was found in the front yard of 3441 Avenue B on the morning of October 15, 2013. She was transported to Mercy Hospital where she was pronounced dead. After establishing a perimeter around the home and attempting negotiations, Darwin Cox was found passed out on the floor. Cox was transported to UNMC with a single gunshot wound to his chin. Council Bluffs Police said it appeared that Darwin fatally shot Millisa and then unsuccessfully attempted suicide by shooting himself.
