(Harlan) Darrel Wenzel, CEO of Harlan Municipal Utilities, has announced he has been offered and has accepted the General Manager’s position at Waverly Light and Power in Waverly, Iowa.
In his announcement, Wenzel stated, “HMU is positioned to succeed thanks to the dedication of former and current employees and board members. I anticipate HMU will be recognized in 2014 for its outstanding electric reliability statistics by the municipal utility national organization known as American Public Power Association (APPA). Its gas department is respected by its peers and the state of Iowa. Harlan has a new water plant second to none and the Telecom department is poised to make a monumental shift to Harlan citizens. We have enjoyed our time in Harlan, met and made some new friends and I trust I have been a good steward of the Harlan Municipal Utilities. It’s been my goal to build on what has been accomplished before my arrival and leave HMU on a solid foundation for the next CEO.”
Wenzel became CEO on May 21, 2012 coming to HMU from Independence Light and Power, Independence, Iowa. His last day at HMU will be February, 14, 2014.
HMU Board of Trustees Chairman David Tyrrel issued the following statement, “We appreciate what Darrel has brought to HMU, what has been accomplished under his tenure and wish him well in his future. The Board will begin the search for a replacement immediately.”
