(Ames) USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack has announced the creation of regional hubs for "Risk Adaption and Mitigation to Climate Change" at seven locations around the country. One of them is the national lab for agriculture and the environment in Ames. Dr. Jerry Hatfield is the laboratory director and says the goal is to look "Long-Term" at not only how climate changes directly impact agriculture for this year, but for generations to come. Hatfield says,
"The big emphasis for the climate hubs is how do we bundle that research information that we've been developing and make sure that it gets put into educational efforts, outreach efforts, that really gets translated into information that producers could use, ag commodity groups could use, processors could use, environmental groups could use."
