(Griswold) Iowa Workforce Development announced Tuesday that Iowa's December 2013 unemployment rate fell to a post recession low of 4.2 percent. That is down from 4.3 percent in November and 5.0-percent the same month a year ago. The annual umemployment rate for 2013 was 4.7 per cent statewide.
"I think one of the things that has really helped Iowa's financial condition and low unemployment is the strong agriculture prices the last several years," stated Griswold Republican Representative Jack Drake. "I see alot of new machine sheds, grain bins and new equipment."
However the grain markets are much lower than a year which concerns Drake.
"One of the concerns moving forward is the drop in grain prices and will affect the economy quite abit and could mean a loss of jobs," said Drake.
A year ago at this time corn was selling for over $7.00 a bushel. Today it is valued at around $4.29 a bushel.
