(Council Bluffs) An Iowa State Patrol Trooper will not be charged for shooting a suspect during a pursuit in December.
The Council Bluffs Nonpareil says no action will be taken against Trooper Timothy Sieleman since deadly force was necessary to defend himself against Michael Lee of Carter Lake.
Sieleman attempted to stop Lee, who was operating a Dodge Ram truck without plates near the South Expressway and Veteran’s Memorial Highway, on December 1st. The pursuit reached speeds between 90 and 100 mph. Trooper Sieleman attempted to force Lee’s truck from the road, but lost control of his patrol car and went into the ditch. That’s when Lee attempted to run Trooper Sieleman over. Sieleman fired several shots at Lee’s vehicle, striking him at least one time. Lee fled the scene but was stopped after another trooper rammed his vehicle, causing it to roll near Veterans Memorial Highway and 35th Street.
