(State) A new report indicates Iowa is in a position to generate more solar energy for use in several ways than places like Georgia, Utah, and South Carolina.
The study by the Iowa Environmental council says the combination of our year round weather patterns, declining costs and willingness to embrace solar energy could make the state 16th in the country when it comes to solar energy production. Nathaniel Baer of the I-E-C says there's all kinds of potential.
"It makes sence on farms and agricultural applications and there is a lot more that can be done and the same can be said for each of those other types of applications whether it's schools and university, factories, warehouses, etc."
The largest solar array is at Luther College in Decorah and two small uitilities in Kalona and Traer are operating solar energy facilities.
