(Atlantic) The Cass County Board of Supervisors approved a contract with SWIPCO to provide and perform necessary services to carry out formal adoption of a Local Hazard Mitigation Plan for Cass County at their meeting this morning.
It is a requirement that every jurisdiction have an up-to-date Hazard Mitigation Plan that is FEMA approved. Each city and the county have to come up with plans that would reduce the impact of disasters and the projects in those plans could be eligible for federal funds.
In November, the Supervisors approved a local match resolution for the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program in the amount of $53,000 with the Federal share being $39,750, State share $5,300 and local share $7,950 in-kind.
Cass County currently has a Hazard Mitigation Plan that will carry through 2015. Officials are working to have the updated plan in place so there isn’t a lapse where the County is going without a hazard mitigation plan.
In other activity, the Supervisors approved appointing Gene Eyberg to serve as Commissioner of the Southern Iowa Regional Housing Authority, and Kevin McCunn to fill a vacancy term on the Cass County Board of Health.
