(Des Moines) After Ashley Okland’s murder in 2011, the Iowa Association of Realtors took several safety steps to increase protection for the realtors who were working alone in many cases.
IAR President Kathy Miller says the job safety tips still apply today.
“If they feel uncomfortable about a customer that has called on the phone we always tell them to meet them at the office first, know who you are working with, get a copy of their driver’s license,” explained Miller.
Miller says the public should come to expect the security scrutiny. Okland was murdered while working an open house in West Des Moines during the middle of the week. Her murder remains unsolved.
