(Des Moines) It’s another 3-cent increase today for the mailing of a first class letter. This is on the heels of a one cent stamp increase in 2013.
Spokesman Richard Watkins with the U.S. Postal Services says if you bought the Forever Stamp you’re okay for now, but not forever.
“A forever stamp today will cost you 49 cents if you bought them Saturday, or prior to Saturday they would have been at the prevailing 46 cent price,” said Watkins.
Watkins says postcards went up a penny to 34 cents. Charges for additional weight on letters also saw an increase of a penny. He says online bill paying, as well as companies sending bills online, has had the biggest impact on postal services.
He says the postal service is hopeful pending legislation in Washington, D.C. will offset losses with a reduction in mail delivery from six days to five.
