(Washington D.C.) Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley asked the Federal Trade Commission to review conditions that have led to propane spikes in Iowa.
Grassley says the recent propane supply shortage and price increases are causing “hardship for the many rural families that use propane to heat their homes. He is asking the agency that oversees business practices to look at the propane situation and see whether the price increases are legitimate or manipulated in any way to consumer’s detriment.
In the meantime, Grassley encouraged anyone who may be eligible for federal heating assistance to contact the Iowa Farm Bureau of Energy Assistance for more information.
Propane was around the $1.60 range earlier this week. Since then it has climbed to over $3.00 a gallon at some distribution sites.
