(Des Moines) State Senators are acting quickly on a bipartisan initiative proposed by the Governor last week. Ames Democrat Herman Quirmbach spoke in favor of a bill that would shield veteran’s military pensions from Iowa income taxes.
“Anything we can do to help bring our veterans, the people who have served our country, to help bring them back to this state would be most welcome,” stated Quirmbach.
Senator Quirmbach says making Iowa more attractive to former military will only benefit Iowa communities and help reward veterans for their service.
The military pension’s tax exemptions bill passed out of sub-committee unanimously this morning. It’s expected to be taken up by the full Senate Ways and Means Committee as early as tomorrow.
