(Atlantic) Twenty-two people gathered at the Cass County Democratic Caucus in the Second Floor Court Room at the Cass County Court House in Atlantic Tuesday night.
Cass County Democratic Party Chairman Sherry Toelle says the turnout was about the same as it was in 2010. Cass County Democrats gathered to elect delegates and alternates to the County Convention, elect Precinct Committee Persons to the County Central Committee and discuss and adopt proposed resolutions to the county platform.
“I think everybody was pretty much in agreement on where we were headed and where we wanted to go,” stated Toelle. “I wish there had been more folks there, but a lot of people don’t understand the importance of mid-caucus’ because they are just as important as a Presidential year.”
Toelle says the platform consists of Living wage Law and restoring unemployment benefits, banning fracking, banning the Keystone XL, regulating oil railcars, repealing lead shot in hunting, ending subsidies to fossil fuels, over turning Citizens United, several voting rights restorations, and a Congressional “no work,” “no pay,” resolution.
The Cass County Democrats also elected 25-delegates and alternates to the Cass County Democratic County Convention.
