(Cedar Rapids) Even though violent crime is up slightly across the city, Chief Wayne Jerman is praising the department's efforts to lower specific violent offenses. Jerman says there were specific crimes they targeted and "We say significant results." Those were robberies, which fell from 101 in 2012 to 91 last year- that's about 10%- and shots fired, which were down 12.5% to 56, compared to 64 in 2012. Overall, violent crime, which also includes aggravated assaults, assaults on officers, murder and sexual assaults, increased seven percent form 488 offenses in 2012 to 523 last year.
