(Glenwood) Bone fragments were found in a home destroyed by a fire in Mills County on New Year’s Eve.
The Council Bluffs Nonpareil says the Council Bluffs Police Department Criminal Investigation Division confirmed that the remains were found during a search of the house located near the Iowa Highway 370 Bridge in Mills County. However, authorities have not confirmed if the bones are human. The bones have been transported to the state lab in Ankeny for testing.
The fire destroyed the home of 69-year-old Gerald Nibbe, who was not home the night of the fire. Authorities were also investigating a suspicious vehicle found parked on the property the night of the fire. The vehicle’s owner told authorities that he lent the vehicle to 26-year-old Travis Bach, who has been missing since the fire. Authorities say Bach did know Nibbe through doing odd jobs for him in the past.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
