(Harlan) The Harlan School Board approved the final Merrill Field Plans and Specifications at their meeting Monday night.
Superintendent Justin Wagner says it's been about an 18 month process and last night's approval was a major step.
"The board unanimously approved FEH as the architect to move forward and sending the plans and specs out to contractors so an ad will go out in the paper today with all of the specifications and the plan but it's a critical step."
Wagner says there are five main components of the finalized plans.
The first one is field turf and the second one is resurfacing of the track like most folks know it is 18 years old and you usually get about 15 years out of a track typically.
And then it will be brand new bleachers on both sides, the visitors and the home side and then it will be brand new lights put in and it will be a brand new entrance as well. So really when it is done we anticipate it to look like just a great, great venue.
In other news news the school board approved the resignation of High School English Teacher Melinda Thompson who is retiring. The board also set a public hearing to replace the Gym Air Handler. Wagner says an energy audit revealed doing so, could save up to $21,000 per year.
