(Atlantic) A public hearing will be held at the Atlantic City Council meeting Wednesday night regarding the Tobacco Free Policy and Ordinance for Sunnyside Park.
The policy lists the following areas designated as tobacco free; trails, the outdoor recreational facilities, and all public buildings, grounds, restrooms, and athletic fields. The ban also includes; spectator areas of athletic facilities during a sporting event, tennis courts, basketball courts, skate park, pavilions and within 25-feet of the playground equipment areas and shelters. It does not include the disc golf course. Punishment for those caught using tobacco will follow Chapter 142D.9 Civil Penalties paid to the city’s general fund.
Atlantic Park and Recreation Director Roger Herring told the Park and Rec. Board Monday night that following the public hearing there will be a presentation from the committee who worked on the tobacco free policy.
“I think it’s a powerful presentation and says what you need to hear even if you’re kind of an anti-person; it does present some great facts,” said Herring.
Herring said the ordinance requires three readings.
The Atlantic City Council meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
