(Atlantic) The Atlantic Fire Department was called out to a field fire on the northwest edge of town Monday afternoon.
The department was able to avoid any major damage by quickly extinguishing a field fire near Pelgrow at 60511 Glacier Road. Atlantic Fire Department Chief Mark McNees says
"AMU had been out last Wednesday and burned some piles out here and came out to check on them and things just stirred up a little bit and with the wind the way it is it took right off."
McNees says they had plenty of manpower to get things put out quickly.
"Yeah, fortunately before it got across the tracks into the real tough stuff, so a pretty good, quick knockdown. Of course it's a good thing they were real close here to call it in."
The original call came in shortly after 2:00 Monday afternoon.
