(Des Moines) The IRS says qualifying taxpayers can use a free “e-file” service to get a jump on filing their taxes before the actual filing season begins at the end of the month.
Spokesman Christopher Miller says e-filing has become the norm for most taxpayers, but not all.
“Last year, Iowa led the nation in e-filing with well over 80 percent of people doing their tax returns via e-file,” explained Miller. “So, we want to encourage people to use free file as a way to also e-file your taxes.”
If your income is 58-thousand dollars or less, the IRS website will list several free e-filing options. The only catch is you will have to wait a little while to get your return as the IRS is unable to begin processing returns until January 31st.
