(Council Bluffs) The Iowa State Patrol has released the name of the driver killed Friday in the fatal accident north of Council Bluffs.
Authorities have identified the driver as 33-year-old David D. Miller of Benton, Arkansas
The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened at arouind 10:30 p.m. Authorities say a 2008 Kia Spectra driven by David Miller was traveling north the wrong way in the southbound lanes near the 55.8 mile marker on Interstate 29 just north of Council Bluffs. The Kia collided headon with a southbound 2005 Nissan Maxima driven by Fredy Zanabria. The Kia ended up in the median facing east. Zanabria's Nissan came to rest in the west ditch.
Miller was pronounced dead at the scene. Zanabria was trapped in his vehicle and suffered what was described as "extremely critical injuries." He, along with a passenger, 23-year-old Cesar Caballero, were airlifted by Lifenet Helicopter to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Another Another passenger in the car, 20-year old Luz Trujilo, was transported by Council Bluffs Rescue to UNMC.
According to the Iowa State Patrol Zanabria was the only person in the vehicle to be wearing a seat belt. The residence's of the occupants in the Zanabria vehicle were not released.
