(Des Moines) Forecasters from the National Weather Service in Des Moines say an Alberta Clipper will race southeast through the central part of the state today.
Bands of snow will move along the eastern edge of this system and early afternoon. Snow showers will occur farther to the west. Strong and gusty winds will create areas of blowing snow and reduced visibilities.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for central Iowa as well as Carroll, Guthrie, Dallas and Madison counties until 6:00 p.m. this evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, periods of light snow and snow showers are expected through the morning with snow showers expected this afternoon. Strong northwest winds will increase by noon to speeds of 25-35 miles per hour with higher wind gusts of 50-miles per hour this afternoon. This could cause white out conditions at times.
