(Greenfield) Greenfield Republican Representative Clel Baudler says he’s disappointed that Governor Terry Branstad did not include 50-or-60-or-80 new Iowa State Patrol Troopers in his budget plan. Baudler says it is an area of the Governor’s budget that he wishes he would address.
“The troopers on the road are crying for additional Officers and it is something that has been neglected for several years now.” stated Baudler, and they aren’t replacing the retired troopers fast enough.”
“They talk about pension systems, when you don’t have any young Officers paying in and around eighteen or so Officers retiring every year, we replace them with seven. That doesn’t make sense.”
Baudler complains that when budget cuts are made Public Safety gets cut first and it’s affecting response time.
“Officer Response time has always been a priority and it seems like now it isn’t like it used to be,” explained Baudler. “And the only way we can correct that is getting additional Officers on the road.”
Baudler says he would like to see 87 new troopers brought in over the next two years.
