(State) The Iowa Health Fact Book, for 2013 is a mix of good news, and not-so good news. Jane Pendergast of the center for Public Health Statistics in Iowa says one area that shows promise involves a leading cause of death...
"We are seeing a decline in cancer mortality, in other words we are making progress in helping people survive after being diagnosed."
She says heart disease mortality, is also continueing a slight, but steady decline. Pendergast says causes of death, that appear to be on the increase include: Unintentional poisoning, -involving prescription drug-over-doses, combined with alcohol or illicit drugs.
