(Clarinda) An Essex man spent the night in his wrecked vehicle following a single-vehicle accident in Page County late Monday night.
Page County Sheriff Lyle Palmer says 56-year-old Dean Michael Ohnmacht was injured in the accident that occurred at around 8:30 p.m. Monday night near 190th Street in rural Page County.
The Page County Sheriff’s Office says Ohnmacht was westbound on 190th Street in a 1994 Ford Ranger approaching a bridge when he swerved to miss a deer that ran into the roadway in front of him. The pickup ramped the bridge railing causing it to roll. It landed on its top on the bank, then went airborne end over end to the bottom of the riverbed and came to rest on the frozen river.
Ohnmacht spent the entire night in the truck waiting for someone to find him. Tuesday morning he was able to climb out of the vehicle and make his way to the road to flag down assistance.
Ohnmacht was transported to the Clarinda hospital the next morning and later taken to an Omaha hospital.
