(Des Moines) Officials have reported the flu death of an otherwise healthy Iowa child.
“It’s very rare to have a child die of the flu, especially a healthy child, unfortunately though it can happen,” said State Medical Director Dr. Patricia Quinlisk. “There have been about 10 in the United States so far this year and unfortunately this is the first one we’ve had in Iowa.”
Dr. Quinlisk says the flu strain that’s circulating is especially tough on children and young adults. She notes it’s not too late to get a vaccination that will provide protection during the rest of the flu season.
