(Corning) The Corning School Board approved changes to the district's open enrollment policy at their meeting Monday night.
Superintendent Willie Stone says the open enrollment change came following a lengthy discussion.
"Had a long discussion about whether people, parents just need to follow the guidelines or whether if somebody is unhappy in the district whether we should let them out or not and the board voted last night to approve open enrollment at any time."
The previous policy had a deadline of March 1st. Stone says the topic has been looming for the last couple of years.
"With a new board we felt we need to have, over the past two years we've changed all but two positions on our board, so we needed to have that open discussion about how everyone felt about it and what their feeling was just to get an idea on how we want to handle it going forward. "
Additionally, the board approved an SBRC Application.
"The board approved an application for Maximum Modified Allowable Growth for open enrollment out students of $30,005."
In other activity the board accepted the resignation of Y-Team Sponsor Lisa Konecne, appointed Andrea Nett, Reagan Jensen, and Wendy Boswell to the Communication Committee, and approved a 12:30pm early out on January 24th for the John J. Harris Wrestling Tournament.
